Cocos Island - 2009 : 5 Apr 09 - Boat dive on the western part of the Cocos island lagoon. I didn't see much of anything, but drifting was fun. Killers saw a Manta Ray.

Boulder Alley - 2009 : 29 Mar 09 - I intended to make it all the way out to the tip of the cliff at Boulder Alley and go inside the cave, but the rest of the group didnt' seem interested. So, we descended and navigated along the bottom. We found the old pipelines and huge junction supports, but otherwise it was a pretty boring dive.

Double Reef - 2009 : 16 May 09 - In between the last dive and this one, we came across about 30 spinner dolphins who enjoyed playing in our bow wake. Interesting sand channels and lots of hard plating coral. No significant life.
17 May 09 - Spotted an octopus hidden inside a rock at the start of the dive. Spotted another two within three feet of each other at the end of the dive. Incredible!

Hap's Reef - 2009 : 22 May 09 - Hap's Reef at night is much better than during the day. We saw a hugh moray eel that wasn't too happy when we were checking him out from behind the rock he was hiding underneath. We also saw a large red crab, sleeping parrotfish, and a strange fish hovering close to the reef.

The Wall - 2009 : 24 May 09 - Prior to the dive, we saw about 15 pilot whales on the surface. They seemed to stay very still, unlike the spinner dolphins we saw the previous weekend. The dive was pretty uneventful except for finding a dive knife.

Japanese Seaplane - 2009 : 28 Feb 09 - A Japanese Seaplane flipped upside down with the distinct Rising Sun wing flash! My first airplane wreck!
29 Mar 09 - Same as the first time except we saw a sea turtle on the way down. Also, we departed the plane to the right of the line and circled around back to the pier. Along the way, there were large fields of Montipora and other SPS corals. The large soft purple things are called Elephant Ear Sponges.

Gun Beach - 2009 : 1 Mar 09 - We tried to get in the water at sunrise to try and see some rays, but no luck this time. They were out there because another group said they spotted them around the buoys. It was a great wall dive with tons of great SPS.
15 Mar 09 - Adam's first manta ray encounter and man was it sweet! Sunrise dive at Gun Beach, Guam with 6 of the bros. After about 20-30 minutes of kicking out toward the north buoy, we spotted the ray's wingtips breaking the surface. It swam around us for about the next 20 minutes before we descended and dove back toward the cut. Along the way we saw a sea turtle and numerous coral formations then wrapped it up by riding the surge back to shore. Overall, one of the best dives I've done on Guam!
28 Mar 09 - Gun beach one hour before sunset. We weren't in the water more than a few minutes when we spotted about a 2-3 foot wide Spotted Eagle Ray. It had no interest in hanging around us and darted off when I tried to swim closer. Then, another few minutes later, we saw about a 4 foot black tip reef shark heading into deeper waters along one of the cable lines! This was one of the funnest shore dives I've ever done!

Gab Gab II - 2009 : 14 Mar 09 - The reef is in great shape! Tons of Montipora and other encrusting and plating hard corals. At the end, we saw a huge anemone that stretched about 15 feet!

Joe tried to spear some fish with his rusty spear, but no luck...maybe next time!

Kitsugawa Maru - 2009 : 14 Mar 09 - This is the best shipwreck dive on Guam. The center of the ship was noticeably blown up. Two large masts with lots of great coral growth provided incredible backdrops for pictures and intermediate safety stop for this deep dive. The deck is about 110' with the bottom at around 135'. There's no good reason to go toward the stern of the ship (away from the deck gun. Instead, head in the direction so you'll pass the tall slender mast first, then the arch-like mast and finally the deck bow gun. Definitely worth going back to!

Cemetery Wall - 2009 : 28 Feb 09 - We mistakenly thought we found the Amtrak amphibious personnel carrier, which turned out to be a sailboat.

We did see some spectacular coral wall formations, lots of blue starfish and even a crown of thorns. Otherwise, there was a lot of trash (e.g. cans, sheets, etc.), but overall it was an excellent first dive back on Guam!
